The  Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder is driven by a 205cc Briggs and Stratton, 850 Series Over Head Valve (OHV) engine developing 5.5 horsepower. With its two feed option you can put small debris and leaves through the hopper and feed twigs and branches etc. up to 2 inches in diameter into the side chute.

The cutting part of the chipper is done by chromium hardened blades. The Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder has large 10 by 4 inch pneumatic tyres with a handle that allows it to be manually moved or it has a towing attachment that allows it to be towed.

It is non-carb compliant in California so it cannot be sold there.

Well the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder really confused us. Generally when you look at the various reviews you see a pattern and the product is either liked, or you get average feed back or people just plain don’t like the product.

With the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder we got a group who thought it was OK  grading it 5’s and 4’s and they got what they expected, and then we got a group who thought it was just no good at all grading it 1’s and 2’s. To be fair there were some 1’s in the first group and some 5’s in the second group.  Grades of 2’s and 3’s were almost absent? Weird? There may be a small chance that a batch that slipped through quality control?

Of course we use individuals, consumer organizations, and companies for our collection of reviews, so the individual and consumer reviews may be more objective if you know what I mean.  Another explanation could be that the actual value of each grade differs from place to place.

Any way, we simply tell it as we see it and in doing so help you, the potential purchaser, to make a decision.

It would appear green weedy material is a no-no (same for most knife systems really) as it clogs the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder. But to unclog was a bit of a marathon because taking the hopper off was not an easy task due to the position of the nuts and bolts. This aspect also made changing the blades a bit of a marathon. Some said the way the blades were attached to the spindle was weak in design.

A few people mentioned quite a vibration while the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder was operating and this tended to loosen the nuts holding the hopper on which caused problems. A lot of people were not happy with the position of the oil filler hole, saying it made the job of filling with oil unnecessarily difficult.

Others found Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder a very capable chipper doing the job expected of it, but also mentioning some of the issues above like the oil filler. One engineer was impressed with the design and operation of the chipper but he did say the method of removing the hopper could be improved. One couple were pleased with the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder machine mulching 50 bags of leaves in 6 hours with no trouble.

Most agreed it was pretty easy to start.

So I think in light of the mixed review comments we will sit on the fence, but an interesting one for the Troy-Bilt Gas Chipper Shredder.
